'EuiroK of Post: Your account ol the Uepublican mars meetiug at Wilson, ou the 17th inst., does Col. Long, of Rowan county, great injustice. Col. Long made a powerful j speech on the occasion, and in my opin ion, it had good effect upon a great number of, democrats who were present. The Colonel is doing great good for the. Republican cause in a number of the eastern counties. He will return to Rowan next week, and will continue to I apeak there until the day of election. , i Justice. Fou GreeuET. Our frieud E. , II. McQcHiO, Esq., formerly of the Federal Army is out in a card for Greeley, and still claims to be a Republican. A few short years ago Mr. McQuigg felt called upon to publish a card in which he be wailed his attempt to act with' the "Conservatives" and acknowledged that such action did tiot remove the preju dice his neighbors at Rocky Point had against Northern men. He was then nominated and elected a Magistrate by the Toters of this city. At the next election, Mr. Mctuigg voted for a Democratic Alderman, alleging that he was bis personal friend, aud at the next Republican Convention, he failed , to receive a nomination, although an ap plicant for the office. Since that time, he has remained out of political strirc until the present card. We feel sorry for our friend; he is an honest gentle, man, but he has made a serious mistake. Jle has chosen for r himself and must abide by tbe consequences. I vri , .. " ' " -'II- i .Hi, ,, i, ..i. ,, . ., i , . , The Great Republican Mass Meetlrk Prpceodings at Hilton. Mr. Long is a very fine and flueut speaker. I He has a fine voice and can bo heardat a great distance. We hope wc will have an opportunity of hearing him again. He explained the bull pen and "over drawing" business. JlOi. UENKT WILSON then came, forward aud addressed the thousands of earnest men before him, with one of tho-e calm noble speeches and arguments never to be loryotlen. At some .future. day wc uiay publish the speech in full. The crowd was still unsatisfied and ready to listen longer, aud Mr. Warwick took the staud. For one hour, the vast throng;?, now swayed by his eloquence, aud uow literally cou vulsed with laughter over his side-splitting anecdote, listened and applauded. He is a great addition to our list o.f speakers. This was olc of the largest gathering-; wc have seen in Wilmiugtou lor many a day and we could not help but admire the forethought of our Commit tee ol arrangements who provided a place for Senator Wilson to speak from the porch where the great old lov er of liberty Coknelius Haknett was wont to walk. Haknett aud Wilson ! Noble lovers ot liberty ; both their names will remain upon the scroll of our American history when the present generation ot detainers are dead aud forgotten. ? 5 The meeting then adjourned to meet at the City Hall at night to listeu to Senator Pool. , At night, the City Hall was packed to listen to the words of wisdom from our noble Senator Pool who showed up the Democracy in their true colors. Gentlemanly and honorable in his debate, plain statements of unan swerable facta were fared like vol leys of hoi shots fired upou the shrinking foe. Hon. C. H. Brogden 0 - followed aud the enthusiasm was kept up until a late hour. in the night. The meeting will be productive of great good and was a success in every respect. The delegations were mostly from the country, a large portion of the em ployees of the city refusing to let' their' workmen off. The fruits of this great meeting will show themselves iu Au gust, aud thousands of men left those hallowed grounds yesterday, more firmly set in the faith of. and confidence in Republicanism thau ever before. Seuators Wilson and Pool and Mr. Warwick left for Gold sboro this morn iug. A right cordial welcome will giect any of them upon a return to our shores. . . -' i f It is stated tlwt the "administrative organ iu ttiis city raised a big "ku kins howl" yesterday.
